"With the Lady's protection, i can do some strong reading late into the night. It is a usual passtime for me so i hope to make good work quickly."
"Navene, dear, could you hand me the book called Umbral Leaves? I don't have the skills to open that first book and the last one might be easier to reach than the others."
"I think i shall begin my reading in here in the common room. I don't know that i want to learn any of this by myself where there are no others to help give a perspective. It may be silly but my Lady gives me warning to be careful with what i learn."
Taking the book from Navene's hand and thanking her, Solaz looks around to find a comfortable spot in which to begin reading. She settles on a sofa, climbing up on it using an ottoman. She settles her back into the cushions, slips off her shoes, opens the book and begins to read. Anyone looking at her soon notices that she wiggles her toes when she reads.

Fin listens to the conversation of the others, and tries to think if he had ever encountered the "Whispering Way" any where in his travels.
"I would not be the most skilled at this research, but perhaps I can still be of use."
Fin walks towards the entrance to the Lorrimor residence. "I will return here later in the night, maybe I will find out more about this town."
Although he does not announce his destination, Fin opens door preparing to had back to The Laughing Demon.

Calaera joins Fin by the door. "Do you mind company? I'm a negotiator and a fighter, not a researcher. Besides, Navene and I left some of our things and my horse at the inn. Anyone else leave anything there?"
She surveys the room quickly, noting that most within are already deeply immersed in their reading. "Oh, and if you find anything about the Counties and their ruling families, mention it to me later. I might have some insights, even from the periphery of Ordranti house."

"Come if you wish."
With that Fin walks out the door and begins walking towards the tavern. Doing his best to keep out of sight of the locals, Fin is walking through Ravengro.

Chouko picks up Serving Your Hunger and tucks it into the folds of her robes. "Over night, I can manage to read but I will go back to the inn so as not to trouble the lady. I will feel better letting Ping wander around a rented room where there's nothing of value he can damage, and my belongings are there already. Shall I come here again in the morning?"

For expediency sake...
The night at the Lorrimor House and the Inn pass fairly without incident as the three who dared to delve into the insanities held within the various unholy texts read their tomes. Details can be found within your private message box.
The tavern, The Laughing Demon, is open, but empty. Elkarid Zokar is behind the counter, and he will gladly serve the two patrons any beverages they wish; any who wish to join them at the tavern may do so, and this thread will remain open for the purpose of "finishing the night's conversation", either at the Lorrimor Place or at the tavern.
However, our main story continues in Part I.ii - Crimes Not Forgotten...

Fin pulls up a seat by the barkeep.
"Liquid ghost, please."
Fin probably looking quite exhausted after a long-day of excitement, "I will need to retire soon, but I was thirsty so I figured I'd stop in here.
As Elkarid gets his drink, Fin figures that this man must hear a lot of chatter about the town.
"Do you know anything about what's been going on at Harrowstone lately?" Fin asks the barkeep.

The barkeep's eyes widen for a moment as he pours the drink for Fin, and then he settles forward, tilting his head. "I don't really pay much attention to Harrowstone. Most folk 'round here don't. If it wasn't empty but for you two, I'd have hushed you. As it is, you might want to keep your voice down."
Elkarid paused before he pushes the tankard over to Fin, and then he looks to Calaera as well, recognizing her from the funeral procession. His lips hold a faint smile. "Most folk don't get much closer than the memorial just south of town. Sometimes the kids sneak up to the prison during the day, and dare each other to run in and touch the walls. 'course, I think it's mad. That place could be full of rats and snakes...or far worse."
His voice lowers. "They say that on the right balcony, the one facing the east, at night the Headman what took off heads there still walks, and if you go at night, you can see it."

"Well that's rather unsettling. Is there anyone around town you think might know more about the jail? I am sure you see a broad sample of the townsfolk in here. Anyone who could help me?" asks Fin, realizing he soon needs to retreat for some sleep.

"It burnt down fifty years ago, my friend," he says, as he looks to Fin. "Not many are around from those days. Some of the councilmen were young men in those days, but probably didn't have connections to the place. The records are probably still in the town hall, though they'd likely wonder why you're asking about them. I'm a little curious myself."

"Thank you for your help. This was an interest of Petros, and after hearing his will I was just curious if maybe you'd heard something."
With that Fin pulls out some money to settle up his tab.
"I am very tired, I think I will retreat for the night."
With that Fin says his goodbyes and leaves the Laughing Demon, to head back to Kendra's.

Calaera smiles at the tavernkeeper. "Sorry if these questions upset you. It's just...we had heard the professor died in the jail and didn't want to upset Kendra. We are all staying to fulfill the professor's last request, but it's hard to look after Kendra without knowing what we're up against. If you think of anything we should know, please stop by the Lorrimer house. If nothing else, Kendra will appreciate the reminder of the friends she will still have here after we are gone."

Calaera pauses a moment at the door, hoping he'll let something else slip, before jogging to the inn and then back to Kendra's.[rand=919851830988306661584068762834739611758609214146435224241039327]

Though Elkarid smiles a little more with the knowledge that the strangely arrayed and armoured folk will be staying for some time in Ravengro, he shakes his head lightly. "Folk round here don't really much remember it. Though...you might try the smith. She was in town at the time, and being of the dwarven race, should have a good memory of such things. Good night t'ya."
