The only response to Vince's reply is a slight twitch in the captain's mouth, though at your vantage point whether it is a smirk or frown remains to be seen. As he turns away, you can see all of the guards now whispering amongst themselves, wagers circulating indubitably based on the outcome of this agreement.
The guards near the entry past the gate itself stand aside as Vince leads the group and their horses past. A couple of them furtively flash a "thumbs up" as you all go past, a worried smile gracing their faces as they watch you ride past. They are soon out of view as the iron-wrought doors of the gate clang shut behind the party as they enter. Ahead of you, a well-tread stone path winds a short distance amongst the hilly lawns of the campus, eventually making its way towards a set of buildings surrounding an open courtyard also paved with stone. A dirt path separates from this courtyard, making its way deep into the forest off to the left of the buildings.
(OOC: Party gains 400 XP for completing the skill challenge without fighting the guards. Once you all have decided on your next course of action, I will need perception checks from everyone.)

Ori looks over at Vince.
"Thank you for the soothing words. They worked. I'd still like to remove that arrogant maw from that arrogant face but your approach was better and i was out of line. Just don't leave me alone with him.... I'll win."

Cael relaxes a bit as they pass through the gate. These humans were certainly not kind to one another, nor very understanding. He was grateful to have someone who understood their ways along with him.
He shifts in his saddle at Ori's words - he agreed with her greatly, and gives her a look back and an nod of agreement. "Yes, thank you Vince. I don't think I could have handled that quite so eloquently. Though I must admit to some trepidation at having a man's life in our hands. Though I certainly hope we are back within his timeframe of a day. We should ride swiftly."

Ah, but there is a smile. And he is stepping forward to look past everyone, once the gates are closed, and we are past. "It won't matter, as I intend to succeed. If we fail, well. A couple days won't matter much one way or another. We'll take care of it. Don't you fellows worry."

Ori laughs and tells Cael, "Next time, we take them all. But let's find what we need to now so when we do take that son of a mad cat, we can savor the experience. "
The fury in Ori's voice was gone and she was back to enjoying the experience of riding the horse and having a job to do. By now, only her pride was a bit bruised but she'd lived through worse before.

(Furtive DM Roll: [dice=100])
The clatter of horse hooves on stone echo across the green lawns of the Academy's campus, now dimly lit in a dusky purple twilight from the tower in the distance. You hear little else beyond the conversations that arise amongst your companions. Minutes roll by uneventfully as the group approaches a group of buildings further along the path. Brick-and-mortar buildings stand stoically around a stone-paved courtyard; their windows gaping emptily to the square before them, glass shards framing their maws almost like fangs bared out to the school around them. The square itself is strewn with papers, books, and other academic parephenalia forgotten in the chaos of this night's events. At your current vantage point, the courtyard lies silent and void of any movement. As you approach, a plaque off to the side of the path identifies this as "The Layman's Square."[rand=947225075311682633128416504690634151230442796254799818207420863]

Ori whispers into Cael's ear, "Are you feeling that pulse that's going through everything? It's very uncomfortable."

The party continues onwards into Layman's Square, the clacking of the horses' hooves resounding and bouncing between the academic red-brick buildings surrounding the courtyard. A fountain sits in the approximate center of the Square, somehow still spraying water merrily into the air despite the destruction that has occurred around it. Stone benches ring the fountain, obviously a place for students and faculty to relax between passing periods. Books and various belongings lie strewn about the benches, though their owners are nowhere to be seen. The doors to the buildings seemed to have also been damaged from the blast of energy that enveloped the town; some lie splintered on the ground next to the steps leading up to their now-empty frames, while others sway ajar with the slight breeze of the night.
The stillness of the scene is abruptly shattered as a wailing moan echoes across the Square. Several figures lurch from the buildings, as sounds of pounding can be heard from behind doors that still remain firm.
(Everyone needs to roll initiative. First round will be a surprise round, in which the enemies and Ori will be able to act.)
