Pulling out the spent pistol, Vince begins to reload; it's a quick process, one he's done many times; a rod with twin lengths slips into the two barrels of the pistol, rocking around to clean out the discharge, and then he pours two small packets of gunpowder and two bullets down into the pistol, compacting them again with the rod. The gun slips back onto his hip, before he moves over to Miriam.
"Come along, Mir," he says, quietly, looking down to her eyes. A look he remembers from long ago, and it makes him smile softly. "Best we can do to help is finding Jorell and stopping this from happening to anyone else. The Watch won't understand." Calloused fingers squeeze down on her shoulder, as he smiles and looks to the woman with the lisp.
"Thanks a lot for your help." If he was wearing a hat, he'd tip it. "Ori," he says next, turning to the dwarf. "Can you carry Erfyrn? We'll stop at the Temple. Best chance he has, I think."

Ori says nothing but goes to Miriam and takes the old wizard from her. She picks him up gently remembering picking her son up the same way for so many years. As she raises to her feet with Erfyrn, she speaks quietly and gently to him, "We're moving you now, Erfyn and taking you to the temple. Hang on dear friend, help is here and we will right what wrongs are here, only hold on as we make things better." She continues on this way as she looks to Miriam and Vince to lead the way.

Relieved of her burden, however, slight, Miriam allows Vince to pull her up. A few deep breaths leave her feeling more in control of herself, and she nods at him, willing to trust his judgment. "Whatever you think best, then," she murmurs. "Lead on, and I'll follow."

Cael nods at the group in assent; leaving is their best option. Closing the front door and returning Naria to his back, he quickly makes his way over to the corpses of the villagers, hoping to gather some additional clues before they all leave.
[Quickly checking the bodies for additional clues or loot while Miriam and Ori prepare Erfryn to leave.]

Cael stands up after quickly checking the bodies for any possible clues, placing a few trinkets in his pack. Taking from the dead townsfolk gave him no pleasure; but some of their personal effects may lead to answers. A spade with a strange symbol. A bauble that seemed out of place. And a few more mundane items as well. He would return the valuables to their families later, but there was little time for such thoughts at the moment.
"I believe I may have found some interesting items they were carrying that may shed some light, but there's no time for a thorough analysis now. Let's be off. Lead the way, Vincent?"

Moving towards the back door, the adventurer pauses for just a second, looking to Cael after he finds what baubles might be of use. He can see Miriam preparing herself, and Ori holding the frail body of their friend, their mentor. One hand resting on his hip, Vince opens the back door, and steps outside; a quick thought and he starts towards the temple, navigating the streets to stay off the main road.

(OOC: If the party is actively trying to avoid notice of the watch, I will need stealth checks from everyone. You can do a Knowledge (Local) DC 18 check to find short-cuts to the Temple Of Mysteries, which will give everyone a +5 circumstance bonus to their stealth check. )

The party makes its way through the alleyways of Oakdale, catching occasional glimpses of the chaos going on throughout the town. Wafts of burning buildings, interspersed with an infrequent odor of burning flesh, fill your noses as you attempt to both avoid the watch and locate the Temple of Mysteries. The sky is filled with scintillating streams of shimmering purple light, flowing out from the direction of the academy.
Litter is strewn about the alleyways, knocked over barrels spilling their contents across your path. Vince and Cael pick their way around the trash without an issue. However, Ori and Miriam accidentally bump into a barrel, which falls over with a rather loud crash. Its lid cracks open, spilling preserved fish over both of their feet. A briny, fishy smell fills the alleyway with an almost overpowering stench. You hear someone shout from another alley nearby.
"Holy mother of light! What is that smell?? Seamus, George, check out that alley over there. Check and make sure its not one of those zombies or something..." a man's voice calls. You all hear sounds of footsteps rapidly approaching in your direction.

Of course they'd smell the damned fish. Vince's face twists as the smell of brine overpowers him, and the wash of the pickling liquid passes over the soles of his boots. Damn. His head turns as he looks back to everyone, and he unpins his jacket, to conceal his pistols - though he still wears the sword openly on his hip.
"No worries," he says with an easy smile. "I'll handle this." His head tilts as he looks up to the direction of the footsteps. "Just...play it smooth."

Ori holds her charge a little closer and stops next to Cael. She is acutely aware of the noise her armour produces and tries hard to hold still and keep Erfyrn still and comfortable. She watches as Vince take charge, grateful that he seems so confident in what he is doing.

The source of the approaching footsteps appears as two men round the corner from an alley a short distance away. The soft clink of rustling chainmail echoes through the sidestreet as the they proceed cautiously towards the direction of the party. You get a better look at these individuals as they come closer; a man with flaming red hair and a sharp look about him, with a younger one next to him appearing rather nondescript in appearance. Both wear chainmail, slightly discolored with soot, with surcoats worn over it bearing a symbol of an oak tree surrounded by blue stars. As they catch sight of the party the men stop their approach, their hands hovering nervously about the hilt of a longsword at their belts. The man with red hair takes a step toward the party.
"Ho, citizens! The town is currently under martial law by order of Governor Feldorn, and a curfew is currently in effect for all citizens. Identify yourselves and state your business!" he shouts in your direction.
