Reacting to the situation quickly, Cael feels himself begin to edge into the flow of combat. Though he wasn't expecting it, he still knows what to do when he has allies on his side. His mind begins to move quicker and quicker as he works the incantations to a spell, and his arms begin to blur as he forms its somatic components. The spell complete, he and the entire group in the inn suddenly feel much quicker to respond to any approaching enemies. He whispers to Naria in Elven, though it wouldn't have been necessasry. The words "You know what to do" can be heard from him as the bow itself flexes briefly, and a sheen of magic covers its surface. Cael then steps back toward the bar and steps up onto the table adjacent to the east wall, using a chair as a stepping stool. Hopefully the high ground will be an advantage. His bow is drawn; he and Naria are prepared to strike any invading force. ( OOC: Cael casts haste, targeting the six inside the bar. It will last for six rounds. Then, he moves back and steps up onto the table on the east wall (four squares right and two squares up). Naria casts gravity bow on herself.)

The sound of moaning can be heard from the doorway, as Cael clambers up onto a table on the eastern side of the room. As the lamps around the tavern illuminate the first figure that stumbles into the room, you all get a better glimpse at what these "complications" are. You see what used to be a male human lurch through the doorway, dressed in peasant's clothing not unlike those that live in the farmlands around Oakdale. However, the being's whole body is a dark mottled color, with streaks of brilliant purple and blue light glowing unnaturally from places where its veins bulge from the skin. Its eye stare lifelessly forward, also a brilliant purple color; as a strange purple mist slowly billows out from its gaping maw.
The enemy continues lurching forward recklessly, its arms reaching hungrily forward towards Erfryn.( Attack versus Erfryn: [dice=20]+7 vs AC, [dice=6]+4 dmg. Grapple: [dice=20]+10 vs CMD) Erfryn dodges to the right as the former villager lunges as him with a moan, its arms clutching at where he had been previously. More of these beings keep lurching into the inn; appearing as former students, merchants, and other people from around Oakdale. They all share the stark differences that the first one had, with the purple mist emanating from their mouths. Two more come through the front door; with one stopping next to Ori and the other moving in front of Miriam. Two more burst in through a side door to the inn; one of these beings move in a straight line through the door, while the other begins to shamble towards Vince.(OOC: Ori, you may make an opportunity attack against villager 1 or 2 as they shamble past you.) Vince immediately yanks out his twin-barrelled pistol and fires twice, aided by the magical power seeping into him from the spell cast previously, targeting the one closest to him; if that one falls, then he would shoot towards the one between he and Miriam.

The villager lurching towards Vince has two large holes blown through its body. Shining purple ichor drips to the floor from its wounds, but it still manages to stay on its feet.
You hear some crashing from the kitchen, but nothing more from that direction.

Miriam's face tightens with grief as she looks at the once proud villager before her. "Erfryn," she chokes out, "Did you do this?" For a moment she grips one of the starknives she wears at her belt, but a glance behind her makes her realize that she has no avenue of retreat, and her companions are scattered.
"Desna," she whispers, "give me sanctuary." The butterfly mark across her face shimmers with starlight.

As Miriam speaks her prayer carefully, ethereally beautiful butterflies shimmer silently into existence around her. They fly around her in a protective fashion, though the "villagers" near her do not react visibly yet; beyond general moaning and shuffling.

( OOC: Ori's second roll was actually 6+6. It got re-rolled when post updated for damage) As the one of the villagers charged in previously, Ori managed to take out a sizable portion of its abdomen with her hammer as it charged past. However, as she swung her hammer a second time at the "villager" next to her, it lurched suddenly sideways to avoid her attack." Sarna! Get your scaly arse out here, we've got company!" Flog yells to the kitchen, as he exchanges a broom for the battleaxe on the counter. He dashes around the counter towards the nearest villager.
Meanwhile, Erfryn is quite flustered with all of the activity going on quite near him. "I don't know what has caused this! My research should not have been able to do anything like this!" he shouts to Miriam. He then begins to hurriedly cast a spell.( Concentration check-Casting Defensively: [dice=20]+8+5) As magical energy begins to form in his hands, both zombies next to him abruptly turn to directly look at it. He shakes his head, as if to clear it, and the color fades. However, as the second villager makes a bite on his arm, the purple mist begins to copiously billow out of the wound to fill the room for a couple seconds.(Everyone will need to make a fortitude save on your turn, DC 14. Cael surveys the scene. Erfryn, looking overcome and panicked, seems to be in the most trouble.
Suddenly, a violet mist from Erfryn's wounds fills his lungs. Coughing, Cael steels himself from its effects...

...and seems to succumb to some of its effects.
He then focuses his eyes on the "villagers" tackling his mentor. He'd rather not attack possible innocents, but Erfryn's life is at stake.
"Naria, we've got this," he says with a bit of strain in his voice. The bow thrums with arcane power as he invests some of his own energy in its frame.

Cael's arrows fly true through the air, and abruptly the two "villagers" have arrows protruding through their skulls. They fall to the ground without a sound. When they do so, however, they start jerking inexplicably as the purple light they emit suddenly intensifies. The fist grasps at Vince, but with his years of battling things deep under the earth, his instincts kick in, and he twists out of the way of the fist quickly. Like a bolt of lightning, Vince draws out his longsword, and hacks at the zombie before him, five-foot stepping to his right as he does to position himself next to the zombie grappling Flog.
"I'm coming, big fellow," he grunts.
(Vince hacks at the zombie attacking him. If the first attack drops the zombie, he switches to the second zombie. Vince calls on a round of his Archaeologist's Luck to give him +2 to attacks, saves, skill checks, and weapon damage rolls until the start of his next turn.)

( OOC: Vince, don't forget to make your fort save from the mist cloud) Vince slashes at the "villager" who charged him twice in swift succession, though it still appears to be on its feet (Critical hit unconfirmed, automatic hit instead). Shortly thereafter, the door to the kitchen crashes open as a figure hurtles through it. Wing beats blast air down upon the floor as a what appears to be a female half-orc with scaled wings hovers just before the bar." FLOG! What iss the point of you even running thiss inn if you can't even bounce a couple of village loutss?!?" she rages, with a slight reptilian lisp.
