“…but following Master would be also…” Ayame says. Her thought remains unfinished as an ear-splitting screech rends the air, followed shortly thereafter by a blinding white light emanating from the top of the Wizard’s Tower in the distance. Startled, the group looks at the shining beacon on the horizon, pulsating with an unnatural rhythm. An equally sharp cracking sound fills the air as the light begins to take on a purple-hue, with scintillating streams of energy leaping out in all directions from the study at the apex of the Tower. The entire top half of the Wizard’s Tower seems to “waver” for a moment, and then is completely disintegrated as an explosion of purple magickal energy bursts forth from the structure. A massive, roiling wave of this purple energy surges forth in all directions; crashing down upon buildings and people alike as it races out over the Academy. Moving quickly, the group has little time to react before it comes upon them.
Instead of being overcome by this eldritch energy, something odd (more than could be expected in this circumstance) happens. A faint light begins to shine from each person in the group, as a small object floats up to hover in front each of them. An oaken leaf stuck to the elf’s cloak shines verdantly as it floats in the air. A small stain from an alchemical substance on the halfling’s shirt coalesces in the air as shimmering drops of liquid. Metal shavings caught underneath the smith’s feet rise, joining together to make an undulating ribbon of silver. A bit of gold dust on the half-elf’s sleeves sublimates, lending itself to a miniature cloud of sparkling gold. Bits of rock caught in the gnome’s hair orbit her head, colliding to form a small pebble enveloped in tiny flames. These objects flare up brilliantly as the wave of purple energy arrives, encompassing each person in a shield of its light. The energy seems to be repelled by these objects, and pass over the group harmlessly as it rages over the Academy towards Oakdale. Shattering windows and tossing wooden benches about, the wave crashes over the wall separating the town from the school; it ravages throughout the town and seems to continue endlessly out in the distance into the countryside beyond.
The wave past, the shields surrounding the party fade and the light of the objects dims. Apparently spent, the floating objects disintegrate into nothingness with a slight shimmer of magick energy. As the group looks at this happening and generally taking in what just happened to them, the scene is quickly shattered as screams begin to fill the air from all over the Academy. Sounds of pure agony and terror rend the air, only gaining in volume as seconds pass. Nearby, a couple students who had been previously watching what had happened (then running as the wave approached) appear to vigorously contributing to the screams, each student writhing on the ground in apparent distress. They simultaneously arch in an apparent climax of agony, and immediately go limp. Almost at the exact same time, the ubiquitous screams cut off sharply from all directions; creating an eerie silence that falls over the Academy and the town, with not a sound to be heard beyond the quickened breathing of the group that still stands at the gates of the Academy.

The wave of purple was about to hit the group. Trazish didn't even have time to think as he turned to cover his face in some hope to protect himself from the magick when, suddenly, a cloud of gold dust run up his sleeves, giving off warm, radiant, almost like a sun. Just as the wave hit the group, Trazish felt that energy pulse out and fight off the magick. In a similar manner, Trazish saw the rest of the group was shielded by their own magickal force.
As the wave finished and dissipated, Trazish saw his gold cloud sank into his sleeves, looking almost tarnished. Looking around, he saw the group were all find. The feeling of relief was brief as the screams of people filled the air and then stilled, one cry of agony at a time. Looking over at a couple of students that looked like they took the full force of the wave collapse on the ground, Trazish saw them arch their back and contort their face with pain and agony and then fall limp.
Running over as fast as he could, Trazish when to check their vitals. "Pharasma, please," he said under his breath, "don't tell me this was what you warned me off."

(OOC: Yes, they survived. They were inside your respective "bubbles" at time of impact)
Trazish approaches the pair of students and bends down to inspect them with an evaluating eye. Quickly checking vitals and other signs that he has learned through his profession, the half-elf is rather sure that both individuals are quite dead. No heartbeat or breathing can be found, though he does discover something rather interesting. A faint purple glow can be seen at places where the arteries and veins come close to the surface of the skin, almost giving the image of lines of purple light crisscrossing their bodies.
(OOC: I will need everyone to make a Perception check)

As the wave washes over the town, vulgrim wracks his brain to see if /anything/ can be recalled that might have an effect similar to this purple wave of destruction. He shrugs his shield into place on his arm, making ready to move.

A huge blast interrupted Ayame’s train of thoughts. A wave of purple energy rushed toward the group, faster than any of them could react to escape. Dumbles panicked and about knocked Aya over as he tried to hide. Yet, before the energy could incinerate their bodies, several things happened. Pieces from the objects on the tower that had remained attached to them unnoticed until know flew from them and formed a protective shield of energy.
As the energy traveled into town and finally dissipated, screams arose from all around as the townsfolk and students’ bodies were consumed by the energy. Two such students collapsed to the ground before them before dying, or so Aya assumed as Trazish checked their vitals. Watching the bodies carefully, Aya tried to see if there was anything that might happen due to the purple blast.

After examining each body, Trazish took his hand, shut their eyes, and gave a small pray over the bodies. He felt sick to his stomach as he thought about the sound he hear earlier around the town and how they were the same sounds that these two had made. Death was a part of his life, but this many deaths at once was unnatural and upset the balance that his Lady ruled over.
Looking at the two young students, trying to ignore the fact that they weren't even in adulthood yet, Trazish took a second look at the arteries and veins, trying to see if he could make anymore sense of all of this.

Grumplestiltskin watches the explosion of energy, the wave, the collapsing students, and listens to the screams of the townsfolk and arcanists as if in shock.
As Trazish inspects the bodies of the fallen, he turns to see that the others in their group had survived. They had, and his donkey and the goat as well. Quickly exchanging his cloak for his quiver and bow, he says,
"Time to get on out of here, then. Going to the forest appears to be the sane option."

A few moments pass as the half-elf mutters a soft prayer in over the bodies of the two students, while the rest of the group spends a couple seconds gathering their respective wits together. Trazish notices, however, that one of the two student’s hands begin to twitch almost imperceptibly. The half-elf bends over the individual to inspect the movement further, and jumps back as a hand shoots up to grab his throat with inhuman speed.Grab attempt versus Trazish (Not flat-footed due to Perception check): [dice=20] +10 vs CMD The student’s hand firmly grasps his throat, pulsating purple light glowing from the veins on its clenched hand. The body of the student lets out an otherworldly moan as it begins to claw itself up Trazish, its eyes staring lifelessly at him as it draws closer to his throat. Simultaneously with another moan, the other student begins to rise in an uncoordinated fashion from the ground next to the half-elf.(OOC: Time for everyone to roll initiative!) Students: [dice=20] + 2 (OOC: Because you all rolled ridiculously high on most of those checks, I will just post the results here for your reference) Knowledge (Arcana) results: It is hard to identify the effect or magickal theory behind the wave of magickal energy that emanated from the Wizard’s Tower; as there have been no texts or situations you have experienced prior to this event describing the phenomenon you just witnessed. Based on several assumptions you could make regarding this incident, you can assume that the wave of energy produced was in some way related to the high concentration of magick collected in the construction (and consequent destruction) of the Apparatus made by the Archmage. You could conjecture that a spontaneous release of stored magickal energy or a “backlash” caused by the Apparatus’ destruction could be the source to the wave. The effects caused by this wave are beyond your expertise or knowledge at the moment, however. Knowledge (Planes) result: Based upon your knowledge of extraplanar monsters and phenomenon, you have very little precedent to establish a firm theory on the cause of this catastrophe. However, you can make the assumption that the energy of the destructive wave was somehow related to the monster that was attempting to pass through the Apparatus back in Erfryn’s Study. The energy that it emitted from it’s tentacle as it lashed out and altered the observation spell seems to be similar to that surrounding the monster, as well as being similar to the wave that emanated from the Tower. You do not know anything in regards to what effect the wave had on the people in the Academy or Oakdale, however, beyond what you have seen from the two students in front of you. Spellcraft results: It was very difficult to make out any particular details regarding the magickal composition from the wave of energy that emanated from the Wizard’s Tower, as it passed by almost too quickly to get a good examination. You can be quite certain that the wave itself is not the manifestation of a spell or similar arcane manipulation that you happen to know or have heard about in the past. You can guess that the energy is somehow related to whatever was occurring up in the Study of the Wizard’s Tower; though beyond that you know very little.[rand=958845944394534421594592979723404324244349769602647996333093023935] Attachments:

(OOC: Sorry I'm late guys. I didn't realize we switched to a new thread. I'm an idiot.)
As the wave of energy sped toward them Naerwen instinctively crouched down trying to avoid being covered, but was amazed to see the items from earlier float up and shield them. As they began to hear the screams she cringed a little not quite knowing what was going on other than something horrible.
As Trazish checks the bodies she says a quick prayer in her mind knowing that at some point a little guidance would be helpful.

Trazish examined the markings, he noticed the hands twitching a bit. As he leaned in to take a closer look at the left hand, the right shot up, grasping his throat. Grabbing the hand, Trazish saw the markings on the veins pulsating purple and the student moaning in a familar voice: that of the undead. Looking over, Trazish saw the other student rise up in the same fashion.
Anger flared up in Trazish's eyes. First for running right into danger and second for the fact that he made a very stupid mistake for not making sure the markings weren't a form of necromancy. Trying to fight off the undead creature from tearing out his throat, Trazish readied himself to free himself.

When one of the bodies grabbed Trazish by the throat, Ayame’s eyes widened. She let out a squeal of joy when she saw the other body began to move as well. A huge grin spread across her face as she stared at the undead before them.
“Oh, oh, oh!” she exclaimed.
Beside her, Dumbles let out a happy bleat, knowing his master was happy. Reaching to the pack on Dumbledore to grab her rod, her only sorrow was that her teammates did not seem to share in her enthusiasm.
