“Like no other land I have visited in all my vast and fevered travels, here in Varisia art and environment are truly one. The monoliths of a mysterious and romantic people weather the ages, telling the voiceless tales of a race lost to silence. Each inspired day colors the skies in vivid palettes of placid blue, raging red-orange, and sorrowed gray—heavenly emotions painted across an endless, cloudless canvas. Even the natives live like masterpieces on display, their tattoos becoming the likenesses of their lives, their dances telling their endless tales, and their wisdom tempered by murmured harmonies echoing from both past and future.”

In the sleepy coastal down of Sandpoint, evil is brewing. An attack by crazed goblins during the annual Swallowtail Festival quickly turns into something more ominous as the shadows of a dark past come back to haunt the town—and perhaps all of Varisia. Can the heroes stop the awakening of a legendary runelord and keep him from reclaiming his lost kingdom of greed?
The Rise of the Runelords Adventure Path begins with a goblin attack and takes players on an epic journey through the land of Varisia as they track a cult of serial killers, fight depraved backwoods ogres, stop an advancing army of stone giants, delve deep into ancient dungeons to reclaim weapons of unbelievable power, and finally go up against an all-powerful wizard-king in his ancient mountaintop city.
This game covers 1st through 15th level and is for five to six players. I hope to continue all the way through the adventure path...it's a really fun story and hits a lot of different genres.
Character Creation Guidelines
Characters begin at level one. Stats will be a 20 point buy using the rules in the Pathfinder Core Rulebook. Starting gold will be random by class, according to table 6-1.
Only core races and classes will be accepted.
Casters: Buy a spell component pouch and then only worry about tracking components with specific values set for components. Some spells, like alter self, require very specific things that tie to what the spell does directly, like a relic of the creature you're trying to turn into. Again, I don't care what they cost unless noted, but be reasonable about what you might actually have a hold of.
Weight and encumberment are much the same. Be reasonable, and I won't ever pay attention to it. If your character pulls a ladder from his backpack and proceeds to build a house with stones he's been carrying around, we'll talk.
Traits are allowed. The Rise of the Runelords Player's Guide includes some unique traits you might be interested in for your characters, as well as a wealth of common knowledge information your characters would have about Varisia, the area of Golarion in which the adventure takes place. If yoou'd like to see it, PM me and I'll see what I can do to help.
Backstory
Please remember you are level one and design accordingly. The only requirements for your backstory are that you are, for some reason, visiting Sandpoint just in time for the annual Swallowtail Festival, which this year will coincide with the dedication of the new Cathedral. I hope to create an immersive story that makes you feel part of this incredibly detailed world, so let me know if you want any details about an area or group.
